This American election cycle has sucked, and the aftermath even more. I wake up every morning, read the news, call my representatives, and despair a little–or a lot, if we’re being honest.
I don’t think all is lost, though. When all is said and done, I’m a history nerd, and I think in the long term. I think we’ve got a long, hard road ahead of us. I think the racism and rise to power of really awful people is disturbing and horrifying and you can bet I will continue to do everything I can to ensure the worst case scenario never comes to pass.
Over at Forever Young Adult, I wrote something that came to me a couple of days after the election, when I was looking for a bright side. It’s not hard to be optimistic when you’re a reader, especially when the books you read (and are writing!) are targeted at teens. Especially, of course, when you work with some of the most compassionate, intelligent, hilarious people, and you meet and read from more, daily.
So here’s my take on why not ALL is lost…yet. I hope, at least if you’re a reader like me, it brings you a little optimism, too.
